July 5, 2016

The video announcing the gift uploaded to The Game Theorists channel

YouTuber MatPat of the Game Theorists releases a video stating that he was invited to meet Pope Francis in the vatican. He considered possible gifts in line with the Catholic Church's "year of mercy" at the time and eventually something to represent video game culture and the internet. Subsequently, he arrives at the decision to give Pope Francis a steam key for UNDERTALE, believing it's themes make it a good representation. The video becomes somewhat of a meme.

In a tweet, Toby Fox responds to the video, stating that he is "honored"

Apparently @MatPatGT met Pope Francis and gave him UNDERTALE as a symbolic gift. I'm honored.
